KASF’s organizational history, from 1969 to 2022
KASF established in Washington, D.C.
1969
Obtained IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.
January 1972
Increased the scholarships to $1,000 per student; gave out to 13 students.
1980
KASF established the Chair Scholarship Program with a donation of $100K from POSCO.
1984
KASF Western Regional Chapter (WRC) was established in Los Angeles.
1985
18 students from ERC, 8 from WRC, and 2 work-study students were awarded scholarships totaling $28K. First Golf Tournament Fundraiser held in Maryland.
1986
NB By-Laws adopted. National Board of Directors (NBD) created. 1st NBD Meeting held in WDC area. Chair Scholarship Endowment Fund reaches $400K. Increased from $10K to $15K to establish a Chair Scholarship.

2nd NBD held in Los Angeles. 3rd Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA. Southern Regional Chapter (SRC) established in Atlanta, GA.
1990
4th NBD held in Huntington Beach, CA.
1991
5th NBD held in Atlanta, GA. Selection of Shearson Lehman to invest the Endowment Funds. Mid-West Regional Chapter (MWRC) established in Chicago, Illinois.
1992
Annual NBD held in Los Angeles, CA. Endowment grows to $678,980.
1993
Annual NBD held in Chicage, Illinois. 25th Anniversary of KASF.
1994
Annual NBD held in Los Angeles, CA. KASF website created. 1st NB Retreat held in Atlanta, GA. Permanent KASF office to be in Vienna, VA.
1996
Annual NBD held in Atlanta, GA. Endowment grows to over $1,300,000.
1997
Annual NBD held in Los Angeles, CA.
1998
Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA. Gave out over $200K in scholarships.
1999
Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA. Endowment grows to over $1,000,000.
1995
Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA. Endowment grows to over $2,500,000.
2000
Northeast Regional Chapter (NERC) established in New York, NY.
2001
Gave 330 scholarships in the amount of $324,000.
2002
Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA.
2003
Mideast Regional Chapter (MERC) established in Detroit, Michigan.
2004
Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA. Increased scholarship amount to $2,000 per student.
2005
Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA. Gave 324 scholarships in the amount of $414,100. Since 1969, KASF has given out over 1.3 M in scholarships.
2006
Increased scholarship amount to $2,000 per student.
2007
Annual NBD held in Los Angeles, CA. Endowment grows to over $3,000,000. Gave 259 scholarships in the amount of $420K. Initiated Recipient to Donor (R2D) Program.
2008
Annual NBD held in NYC, NY.
2009
Gave 272 scholarships in the amount of $430,950. Endowment has grows to over $3,600,000. Southwest Regional Chapter (SWRC) established in Houston, Texas.
2012
Gave 270 scholarships in the amount of $439,050. Endowment grows to over $3,600,000. Launch of KASF Legacy Campaign.
2013
Annual NBD held in Los Angeles, CA. Gave 299 scholarships in the amount of $527,400. Online application system established nationwide.
2014
Annual NBD held in Arlington Heights, Illinois. MERC is merged into MWRC. Club Express started. Gave 285 scholarships in the amount of $722,195. Endowment grows to over $3,822,000.
2015
Annual NBD held in Flushing, NY. Gave 280 scholarships in the amount of $480,000. Endowment grows to over $3,600,000. KASF non-profit registration relocated to Virginia.
2016
Annual NBD held in Duluth, GA. Gave 245 scholarships in the amount of $467,000. Endowment grows to over $3,600,000. Investment Advisor changed from Morgan Stanley to TIAA.
2017
Annual NBD held in Tyson Corner, VA. Mountain States Regional Chapter (MSRC) established in Denver, Colorado.
2018
Annual NBD held in Los Angeles, CA. Since 1969 KASF has awarded over 10 million dollars to over 6,500 students. Endowment has grown to over $4,000,000.
2019
Annual NBD was held in Vienna, VA. Gave 300 scholarships in the amount of $600,000. Completed the legal state filings in all of the 7 jurisdictions.
2020
KIA America made a Partnership with KASF. Annual NBD held virtually due to COVID and NBD Retreat was held for the first time in Denver, CO in October.
2021
KIA America established the KASF-KIA Scholarships in amount of $300,000. Gave around 400 students in the amount of $775,000.
