Mentor Program
The Mentor Program is in its Developmental Stage - the design concepts are as follows:
- A mentor database is populated with information about subject matter
experts who volunteered to participate in this program. The information about
the volunteers will include data such as, area of expertise, company
affiliation, title, degree/major, university graduated from, state of residence,
etc. Also, this database will indicate the level of participation that the
volunteer is willing to participate - i.e., phone only, email only, personal
discussions, all etc.
- Students entering this program select some predefined areas of interest for
inquiry - general school/career counseling, specific counseling, selection of
schools, what to major, how to prepare for interviews, etc.
- Based on the selected criteria, the system identifies a list of mentors
with appropriate expertise.
- Students can either write email or call any of the mentors.
- In case of email, the message will go to all mentors matched for the
expertise needed - i.e., there may be more than one mentor reading the question.
- All email Q&A will be posted on the website as a knowledge database for
others to browse.
